Nur Irwansyah, Irfan Nurtiputra Copyright (c) 2024 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://e-journal.unair.ac.id/ETNO/article/view/49278 Fri, 31 May 2024 00:00:00 +0700 THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING COMIC STRIPS TOWARDS STUDENTS' SKILL IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT FOR THE TENTH GRADERS AT MA ASSA'IDIYAH TANGGULREJO https://e-journal.unair.ac.id/ETNO/article/view/55034
This research proves the effectiveness of comic strips as a learning media on students' writing skills at MA Assa'idiyah Tanggulrejo in recount texts. This research aims to help students in preparing text structures using simple past tense through comic strips. This research was use pre-experimental design with quantitative method and divided into three parts, there are pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The data collected was in the form of a writing test (pre and post-test) on 40 tenth grade students at MA Assa'idiyah Tanggulrejo. Data analysis was carried out from the SPSS calculation application using the t-test formula. The results of data analysis shown that the mean of post-tests increased by 1.80 from the mean of pre-tests. The value in the t-test formula was 12.502, while the t-table at the 0.05 significance level and the degree of freedom (df) = 39 was 2.023. It able to assume that the Null Hypothesis (Ho) has been rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) has been accepted because the t-test value (12.502 > 2.023) is higher than the t-table. In other word, that there is a significant impact on the use of comic strips as a media to enhance students' writing abilities, especially in recount text.
Meylita Eka, Eva Nur Mazidah Copyright (c) 2024 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://e-journal.unair.ac.id/ETNO/article/view/55034 Fri, 31 May 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Virtually Sailing into Digital Ocean: An Ethnolinguistics Study on r/ Piracy Community https://e-journal.unair.ac.id/ETNO/article/view/50696
: The objective of the study is to examine the connection between language, and the dynamics of r/Piracy community. Therefore, the questions in this study are (1) What are the common nautical-related terms and expressions used within the r/Piracy community? (2) By using nautical-related terms, what kind of beliefs and values are reflected by the members of the r/Piracy community? This study employs a sociolinguistics approach that views language intertwined with societal norms. Therefore, Communalytic was used to gather the language used by both users and moderators of r/Piracy community in posts to form a corpus. Then, the nodes in the corpus are manually tagged with Sketch Engine. Additionally, a built-in network analyzer was used to examine the communication pattern to determine social activity. Finally, the author used Wardhaugh and Janet's theory of language variations. The corpus consists of 3,265 posts containing 103,117 words. The most frequent words found in this community are torrent (142), pirate (110), port (29), seas (17), ship (15), mate (13), sail (13), treasure (4), plunder (3), mate (3), adventure (2), map (2), and loot (1). This study reveals the importance of discussions related to file-sharing and torrenting, as evidenced by the high frequency of the term "Torrent" in the corpus. This research sheds light on the relationship between language and community dynamics in online spaces, emphasizing the role of language in shaping and expressing social identities and interests. The study contributes to our understanding of how language and sociaety intertwined within specific online communities, providing insights into the sociolinguistics aspect of r/Piracy subreddit.

Keywords: Society, Digital Piracy, r/Piracy, Nautical-terms
Daffa Ramadhan Copyright (c) 2024 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://e-journal.unair.ac.id/ETNO/article/view/50696 Fri, 31 May 2024 00:00:00 +0700 PERGESERAN BAHASA DAN TRADISI PETANI PADI DI JAWA: KAJIAN ETNOLINGUISTIK https://e-journal.unair.ac.id/ETNO/article/view/56033
Nur Lailiyah, Farida Indri Wijayanti, Monika Widyastuti Surtikanti Copyright (c) 2024 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://e-journal.unair.ac.id/ETNO/article/view/56033 Fri, 31 May 2024 00:00:00 +0700 SLIPS OF THE EAR EXPERIENCED BY INDONESIAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN PERCEIVING NON-JAVANESE ACCENTED CHILDREN' SPEECH WITHIN QUIET SITUATION https://e-journal.unair.ac.id/ETNO/article/view/57185
Abstract: In psycholinguistics, slips of the ear involving the area of speech perception have accumulated data in recent years. Slip of the ear (SOE) is a phenomenon that occurs when someone misunderstands what the speaker has communicated, whether in quiet or busy environments. The objective of this current study is to identify and determine the many forms of ear slips as defined by Bond (2005), with a focus on the most commonly occurring varieties. The participants in the study were 40 elementary school pupils from grades 3, 4, and 5 at SDN 1 Gubeng Surabaya. These students did not have any hearing impairment and their first language was Bahasa Indonesia. The method used pre-experimental design by giving a listening task in which the voice of speakers used two different accents that were Dayak-Melayu and Minang. Hence, there were 10 sentences in which the participants had to complete the blank space in each sentence. There were 254 incorrect answers, classified into 11 types out of 14 types of SOE. Furthermore, the most frequent type of SOE found is well-formed and ill-formed utterances (30.77%). Lastly, it may be concluded that even in quiet situations and in their own first language, the participants still misperceived the utterance or the gap in every sentence.

Keywords: elementary school students; quiet situation; slips of the ear; speech perception.

Firly Nur Aliifah, Masitha Achmad Syukri Copyright (c) 2024 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://e-journal.unair.ac.id/ETNO/article/view/57185 Fri, 31 May 2024 00:00:00 +0700
