Abstract

Detection of the neuronal degeneration in histological preparations are still having a lot of trouble or false positive results when using conventional staining techniques, for example: Hematoxilyn & Eosine or Nissl staining. Neuronal degeneration appareance are neuron shrinkage, vacuolation and hiperchromatism. Fluoro-Jade staining technique is a histochemical technique that has sensitivity and high specificity for detecting neuronal degeneration. The researches being done to develop a staining technique to get the better results. Fluoro-Jade staining technique modification appears with various advantages obtained, for example Fluoro Jade- B is able to see the activityf glial cells in the CNS. Fluoro-Jade C can be used to detect the neuronal degeneration in the optic nerve and retinal layers. This staining technique can be combined with other techniques, such as immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence method.
