One major issue that can lead to patient dissatisfaction is the communication skills of health workers. When these workers struggle to communicate well, patients may feel poorly served and find it hard to understand their health conditions and care instructions. To address this problem, the Communication Department of FISIP UNAIR organized a training called "Communication Skills Training for Health Workers to Improve Puskesmas Services at the Sidoarjo Regency." The aim of the training was to minimize communication errors between doctors and patients and enhance the community’s view of services at the Puskesmas. The training included various sessions for health workers. They had the chance to share their thoughts, understand patient backgrounds, and practice listening skills. They also learned how to use facial expressions, gestures, and polite language when communicating with patients through role-play exercises. The results of the training were positive. Participants could explain the material through role-play and improved their active listening skills. They managed their facial expressions, gestures, and voice tone better, and applied polite communication with patients from different backgrounds. A final survey showed a 25% increase in communication skills, improving from 55% to 80%. The Insanul Kamil Al-Khaer Orphanage in Sidoarjo, as a social foundation, faces challenges in providing productive and educational activities for its residents. Currently, the orphanage offers only worship and basic school activities for the children. To address this, the Community Service Program implemented a solution based on science and technology that would provide additional income, improve nutrition, and offer valuable learning experiences. The Community Service Program introduced the Budikdamber (fish farming in buckets) system, which is simple to set up and does not require extensive land or water. The program was implemented in three stages: preparing the materials, conducting socialization and training, and providing ongoing assistance in managing the catfish cultivation system using Budikdamber with passive circulation technology. After completing one full cycle of cultivation, the Community Service Program showed that the Budikdamber system improved food security, provided a steady income from surplus fish and vegetables, and reduced reliance on external donations. The program also highlighted the educational benefits for the children involved in managing the system. These results confirm the potential of the Budikdamber system to enhance community empowerment and sustainability. The Community Service Program provides a model for replication in other orphanages and community-based institutions. Further Community Service Programs are needed to evaluate the long-term impact and scalability of this innovative approach.
2025-03-10T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2025 Rozi Rozi, Luthfiana Aprilianita Sari, Kismiyati Kismiyati, Cornelia Sekarjati, Raden Roro Salma, Daud Dharmansyah, Nanda Mutyara, Dinda Yusufina, Reksa Galang, Addul Mananhttps://e-journal.unair.ac.id/jlm/article/view/64542CAPACITY BUILDING OF HEALTH CADRES IN 3T AREAS FOR DIGITAL HEALTH TRANSFORMATION2024-11-13T14:01:50+07:00Niko Azhari Hidayatnikoazharihidayat@gmail.comFitri Retrialiscafitriretrialisca@vokasi.unair.ac.idMuhammad Aldo Setiawanm.aldo.setiawan@ftmm.unair.ac.idAditya Putra Pratama Santosaaditya.santosa78@gmail.comDiah Khrisma Putrianadiah.khrisma.putriana-2018@fkm.unair.ac.idSely Novitaaditya.santosa79@gmail.com
Increasing the capacity of health cadres in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas is a strategic step in supporting digital health transformation in Indonesia. Lack of knowledge about puberty and how to deal with it can have a negative impact on reproductive health, including the risk of anemia, obesity, and mental health problems experienced by more than a third of adolescents in Indonesia. As a solution, Adolescent Posyandu was implemented at SMP Negeri 57 Surabaya by involving Student Health Unit (UKS) cadres as peer tutors. This activity is a collaboration between the Midwife Professional Education Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, Siwalankerto Health Center and the University of Brunei Darussalam, was carried out on November 8, 2024 and attended by 26 students. The program consisted of five stages of service: registration, health checks (blood pressure, weight, height, upper arm circumference (LiLA), abdominal circumference (LP)), recording, nutrition in health education, and counseling. In addition, counseling on puberty, nutrition, and mental health was delivered through educational games to improve the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects of adolescents. The results showed an increase in participants' understanding of physical changes during puberty, the importance of nutrition, and the important role of peers in supporting mental health through educational games. UKS cadres are expected to act as pioneers in disseminating the information and knowledge gained to their peers, thus creating a school environment that supports adolescent health. Generally, food insecurity occurs in villages that are far from urban access, even though the natural potential in villages is greater than in cities. This is also experienced by the people of KarangJengkol Village, Purbalingga Regency, Central Java. Karangjengkol Village has great natural potential due to its location on the slopes of Mount Slamet, but many of its people live below the poverty line, resulting in food insecurity. The real form of effort to improve the food security of the Karangjengkol Village community is to provide education about the importance of animal protein consumption. Many seniors high school students have difficulty understanding this course, so their report book scores are below the KKM. One of the problems is no practicum to apply this subject because it is constrained by tools, materials, and the skills of the teaching staff at each school. Teachers are a very strategic intermediate target because they will explain directly to their students. The purpose of this community service activity is to improve the competence of teachers who are members of the MGMP Biology in Surabaya, especially in the molecular field. This activity was carried out on Saturday, June 30, 2024, attended by 24 participants coordinated by the Head of the MGMP Biology Surabaya, located at the Molecular Genetics Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Technology, Airlangga University. During the training, participants were given courses and practicums such as the use of micropipettes, the DNA isolation process, the PCR method and the DNA electrophoresis process. The results of the training showed an increase in teachers' understanding as seen from the comparison of achievement scores between the pre-test (highest score = 50, range of score 10 – 20 = 45.83%) and post-test (highest score = 80, range of score 10 – 20 = 29.17%); the enthusiasm of participants during the delivery of the courses, practicums and discussions; and the satisfaction index value (above 95%) given by participants. It can be concluded that the Molecular Genetics technique training activities using the PCR and Electrophoresis methods can improve the competence and skills of MGMP Biology Surabaya teachers as an effort to support the learning process in senior high schools. From these results, it is hoped that teachers can be clearer when explaining Molecular Genetics material to their students so that students can understand the material more easily.
2025-03-10T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2025 Sugiharto Sugiharto, Alfiah Hayati, M. Bone cancer prevention and education should be initiated with adolescents. Adolescents are the right group to receive bone cancer education, as they are in an active learning phase and have the potential to develop risky behaviors that can increase vulnerability to cancer, as they are in a stage of active learning but also face the development of risky and unhealthy behaviors. This study aims to assess the knowledge of bone cancer among adolescents in Indonesia. It is a cross-sectional study that uses a questionnaire to evaluate the participants' knowledge of bone cancer. A total of 39 questions regarding family history and general knowledge of cancer are given to the students in a pre-test and post-test format. Between the tests, a group of orthopedic specialists provided a short lecture to the students about the basic knowledge and prevention of bone cancer. The study involved 564 students from junior and senior high schools in Indonesia, with an overall mean age of 14.79 years. Bone cancer was mentioned in the family history of only 0.4% of the participants, but 21.5% to 23.5% were unsure about their own family cancer status. The study found a significant statistical result, indicating that the short lectures given by the orthopedic specialists were effective in enhancing the students' knowledge about bone cancer. The findings suggest that adolescents in Indonesia are still uncertain about their family cancer status and often misinformed about the symptoms of bone cancer. However, an educational lecture or discussion led by an expert in the field has proven to be an effective way to improve the students' knowledge about bone cancer.
2025-03-10T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2025 Yunus Abdul Bari, Ferdiansyah Mahyudin, Mouli Edward, Mohammad Hardian Basuki, Tri Wahyu Martanto, Teddy Heri Wardhana, Rifki Effendi Suyono, Yunita Purnamasari, Muhammad Dimas Arya Candra Permana, Fahrizal Novan Ardanahttps://e-journal.unair.ac.id/jlm/article/view/59065COUNSELING ON REPRODUCTIVE DISORDERS MANAGEMENT IN FEMALE BEEF CATTLE LIVESTOCK GROUPS IN DALEGAN VILLAGE, PANCENG DISTRICT, GRESIK REGENCY2024-12-04T18:16:51+07:00Tri Wahyu Suprayogitri-w-s@fkh.unair.ac.idSuherni Susilowatisuhernifkhunair@gmail.comHerry Agoes Hermadiherrypro59@yahoo.comM Anam Al Arifmoh-a-a-a@fkh.unair.ac.idTatik Hernawatihernawati_tatik@yahoo.comSri Mulyatisrimulyati_s3unair@yahoo.co.idLucia Tri Suwantitswant@gmail.comLilik Maslachahlilik.maslachah@yahoo.comRochmah Kurnijasantirochmah-k@fkh.unair.ac.idTita Damayanti Lestarititadlestari@fkh.unair.ac.idMustofa Helmi Effendimustofa-h-e@fkh.unair.ac.idAry Setya Hernandaary.setya.hernanda-2022@fkh.unair.ac.idSupriyadisupriyadi-2021@fkh.unair.ac.idRakan Mahiid Saputrarakanmahiid@gmail.comAprilia Kurnia Dewiaprilia.kurnia.dewi-2021@fkh.unair.ac.id
Management of reproductive disorders in female beef cattle (Bos taurus) is a vital step in enhancing livestock productivity and animal welfare. Conducted from August to September 2023, this program introduced a recreational therapy-based sensory garden activity. Given that mental health programs focusing on elderly well-being are rarely implemented, this activity aimed to address that gap. Evaluation used a one-group posttest-only design, incorporating interviews and observations, and followed the Bradford Well-Being Profile to assess elderly well-being indicators. The evaluation revealed that the sensory garden activities had a positive impact on participants' well-being, enhancing their sense of purpose, positive emotions, and social interactions. Overall, the program successfully supported the mental health of the elderly at risk of dementia through meaningful and engaging activities.
2025-03-10T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2025 Putu Angita Gayatri, Annisa Putri Soegiharto, Shafira Tri Adisti, Dida Amanda Pratiwi, Pramesti Pradna Paramita
