Kekerasan terhadap perempuan adalah permasalahan global yang melanggar hak asasi manusia serta bentuk diskriminasi gender di banyak negara, termasuk Kenya. Selain berdampak pada kesehatan dan ekonomi, pandemi COVID-19 juga menyebabkan peningkatan kasus kekerasan terhadap perempuan di Kenya. Ini terjadi karena kebijakan lockdown, pembatasan sosial, dan faktor lain seperti masalah ekonomi, budaya patriarki, dan kesalahpahaman praktik budaya. Dampak kekerasan terhadap perempuan tidak hanya bersifat fisik, namun juga pada kesejahteraan psikologis dan ekonomi perempuan. Sebagai organisasi internasional yang fokus pada kesetaraan gender dan pemberdayaan perempuan, UN Women bertindak untuk mengatasi masalah kekerasan terhadap perempuan di Kenya. UN Women menjalankan perannya sesuai dengan teori peran organisasi internasional yang dikemukakan oleh Kelly-Kate S. Pease, yang mencakup peran sebagai problem solver, capacity builder, dan aid provider melalui Forum Kesetaraan Generasi, advokasi, kampanye, bantuan terkait COVID-19 hingga layanan bagi korban kekerasan selama periode 2020-2022.
