Agenda Populis dalam Kebijakan Luar Negeri: Keputusan Javier Milei Menolak Undangan Keanggotaan BRICS

Artikel ini mengkaji bagaimana agenda populis melatarbelakangi keputusan Presiden Argentina Javier Milei menolak undangan keanggotaan BRICS. Milei terpilih sebagai presiden di tengah kondisi krisis ekonomi berkepanjangan, menawarkan perubahan radikal berbasis ideologi libertarian sebagai jawaban atas kekecewaan publik terhadap status quo. Milei memutuskan menolak undangan keanggotaan BRICS, setelah semasa pemilu menunjukkan sikap konfrontatif terhadap dua mitra dagang utama sekaligus anggota BRICS, China dan Brazil. Konsep populisme dan teori peran digunakan sebagai landasan teoretis. Penelitian kualitatif deskriptif ini menggunakan sumber data literatur. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa populisme mengarahkan Milei menjadikan politik luar negeri sebagai kepanjangan tangan pertarungan politik domestik melawan ideologi kompetitor. Penolakan BRICS bertujuan untuk menegaskan legitimasi melalui perubahan orientasi politik luar negeri mendekat pada Amerika Serikat; mobilisasi dukungan melalui pembingkaian narasi pro kebebasan dan anti sosialisme-komunisme; serta penempatan prioritas utama pada insentif domestik dalam pelaksanaan politik luar negeri. Penelitian ini menawarkan perspektif mengenai bagaimana pemimpin populis memanfaatkan kebijakan luar negeri untuk kepentingan domestik mengonsolidasikan dukungan dan legitimasi politik.
