Abstract


Artikel ini membahas tentang kemunculan istilah “queer” dalam konteksbudaya barat dan non barat. Dengan mengeksplorasi sejarah yangmemunculkan istilah tersebut, analisis berpusat pada perkembangan queersebagai reformulasi identitas politik gay dan lesbian dan sebagai kerangkakonseptual baru untuk analisis kultural. Dari eksplorasi terhadap representasikarakter queer dalam film Asia dan penggunaan teori film queer olehilmuwan film Asia, pembahasan dalam artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa teoriqueer menolak pemahaman yang monolitik dan universal tentang seksualitasmanusia. Teori queer lebih terbuka pada eksplorasi kekhususan budaya dankeanekaragaman
