Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.

  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.

  • The submission article has been in accordance with Media Iuris's Guidelines.

  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.

  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Media Iuris is a peer-reviewed journal published by Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga three times a year in February, June, October. The aims of this journal is to provide a venue for academics, researchers and practitioners for publishing the original research articles or conseptual paper. Articles are considered for publication on condition that they have not been previously published or submitted for publication by other academic journals. This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. MEDIA IURIS is available in online version. Language used in this journal is English or Indonesian.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

1. Manuscript submitted to MEDIA IURIS is written in MS. Word (.doc or .docx) file and shall be formatted as follows:

  • Book Antiqua font, size 11;
  • Space 1,5;
  • Paper size A4 (margin top-bottom-left-right, 4-3-3-3 cm)

2. Author’s name is put in complete without academic tittle. It shall mention the last name of the author, email address and affiliation.

3. Manuscript written in Bahasa shall be 15-35 length while manuscript written in English 10-25 length.

4. The use of figures (includes; table, charts, diagrams) shall mention the number and tittle of the figures; using font Book Antiqua size 10 without vertical line.

5. The use of figures shall be in a good resolution. In one article page, figures shall not dominate the writings.

6. Academic writings submitted to MEDIA IURIS shall use reliable sources. It shall at best effort employs updated references that 80% of which are from primary source.

7. The editorial board has authority to edit the manuscript without changing the substantive idea of the manuscript.

8. The systematic structures of the original research article shall include Title, Author’s name, Email, Affiliation, Abstract (in English) or Abstrak (in Bahasa Indonesia), Keywords, Research background (with the Research Questions), Research Methods, Discussion, Conclusion and Bibliography.

9. The systematic structures of conceptual paper shall include: Title, Author’s name, Email, Affiliation,  Abstract (in English) or Abstrak (in Bahasa Indonesia), Keywords, Introduction, Discussion (immediately presented in headings based on the matters being discussed), Conclusion and Bibliography.

  • Title: Title of articles are written with Book Antiqua Bold (14 pt) and preferably not more than 15 words. Author(s) name, affiliations and e-mail.

  • Abstract: Abstracts are written with Book Antiqua (9 pt), space 1, Italic, and preferably not more than 200 words. Explicitly contain the purpose, methods, and results of the research to the paper based on the research results, while the paper reviews (Conceptual Paper)  without the use of the method. For articles in Indonesian, it is mandatory to use 2 abstracts (English and Indonesian), while for articles in English, only use 1 abstract in English.

  • Keywords: Should reflect important words or phrases in the article, consisting of 3-5 words, Book Antiqua, Size 9. Separated by a semicolon (;).

  • Introduction: The introduction should be clear and provide the issue to be discussed in the manuscript. Before the objective, authors should provide an adequate background, and very short literature survey in order to record the existing solutions, to show which is the best of previous researches, to show the main limitation of the previous researches, to show what do you hope to achieve (to solve the limitation), and to show the scientific merit or novelties of the paper. At the end of the paragraph, the author/s should end with a comment on the significance concerning identification of the issue and objective of the research.

  • Method: The method is optional for original research articles. This method is written in descriptive and should provide a statement regarding the methodology of the research. This method as much as possible to give an idea to the reader through the methods used.

  • Discussion: (Author should directly write the focus of topic of this part, no need to write “discussion” as the subtitle).
    This section is the most important section of your article. The analysis or results of the research should be clear and concise. The results should summarize (scientific) findings rather than providing data in great detail. Please highlight differences between your results or findings and the previous publications by other researchers.

  • Conclusion: Conclusion contains a description that should answer the objectives of research. Provide a clear and concise conclusion. Do not repeat the Abstract or simply describe the results of the research. Give a clear explanation regarding the possible application and/or suggestions related to the research findings. Point is not allowed to use in conclusion, please describe narratively and clearly.

  • References: Media Iuris uses the OSCOLA of Style in the References at the end of the manuscript. Cite only items that you have read and written on footnotes. Please use Reference Manager Applications like EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, etc. Use other published articles in the same journal as models. All publications cited in the text should be included in the References/Bibliography section and arranged alphabetically.

SPECIFIC GUIDELINES 

1. MEDIA IURIS applies footnote as the citation model as follows ([1].[2].[3].[4].[5]) and refers to the citation style of OSCOLA (Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities). Authors can take advantage of Mendeley Reference Manager to facilitate them in citing the references.

2. Some citation style that are not regulated in OSCOLA shall use the example as follows;
    1) Regulations (legislations, acts, laws)
        The type of regulation, number, year, tittle (followed by year and number where the regulation recorded in the state gazette)
        Law Number 5 Year 1999 concerning Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices and Unfair Business Competition (The Republic of Indonesia State Gazette Year 1999 Number 33, Annotation 3817)
        Ministry of Internal Affairs Regulation Number 80 Year 2015 concerning Local Regulatory Drafting (The Republic of Indonesia Statute Book Year 2015 Annotation 2036)
    2) If the references cannot identify the exact publisher and the year published, it shall be written with;
        a) [s.n] sine nomine / without publisher.
        b) [s.a] sine anno / without publication year.
        c) [s.l] sine loco / without city publisher.

3. The use of ibid in a footnote
    a) ibid. (means at the same page).[6]
 

4. References digest

  • Author, Book title (italic), (Publisher (space) Year);
  • Author’s name shorted by the author’s last name in an alphabetical order.
  • Blogs dan wikipedia are not a reliable source for academic writings. It shall not be cited in the manuscript;
  • E-Book references shall mention the authors’ name and publisher;
  • References use font book antiqua, size 11 space 1 (no before and after space);

GUIDELINE FOR ONLINE SUBMISSION

Author should first register as Author and/or is offered as Reviewer through the following address: https://e-journal.unair.ac.id/MI/user/register

Author should fulfil the form as detail as possible where the star marked form must be entered. After all form textbox was filled, Author clicks on “Register” button to proceed the registration. Therefore, Author is brought to online author submission interface where Author should click on “New Submission”. In the Start a New Submission section, click on “’Click Here’: to go to step one of the five-step submission process”. The following are five steps in online submission process:

  1. Step 1 - Starting the Submission: The author must check-mark on the submission checklists.

  2. Step 2 – Uploading the Submission: To upload a manuscript to this journal, click Browse on the Upload submission file item and choose the manuscript document file to be submitted, then click Upload button.

  3. Step 3 – Entering Submission’s Metadata: In this step, detail authors metadata should be entered including marked corresponding author. After that, manuscript title and abstract must be uploaded by copying the text and paste in the textbox including keywords.

  4. Step 4 – Uploading Supplementary Files: Supplementary file should be uploaded including Originality Statement. Therefore, click on Browse button, choose the files, and then click on Upload button.

  5. Step 5 – Confirming the Submission:  Author should final check the uploaded manuscript documents in this step. To submit the manuscript to Media Iuris, click Finish Submission button after the document is true. The corresponding author or the principal contact will receive an acknowledgment by email and will be able to view the submission’s progress through the editorial process by logging in to the journal web address site.

After this submission, Authors who submit the manuscript will get a confirmation email about the submission. Therefore, Authors are able to track their submission status at anytime by logging in to the online submission interface. The submission tracking includes status of manuscript review and editorial process.
