Description of the Level of Knowledge of Adolescents About Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at Mujahidin High School Pontianak

Introduction: Technological developments and exposure to social media content that promotes unhealthy foods have increased cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially in children and adolescents. Currently, there is no data regarding the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adolescents in Indonesia, but there is a significant increase in the prevalence of overweight in adolescents. This study aims to describe the level of knowledge of adolescents about type 2 diabetes mellitus at SMA Mujahidin Pontianak.
Method: This research uses quantitative research with descriptive research methods. The sampling technique used is random sampling technique and the method of sampling in this research is by using stratified random sampling technique. The subjects of this research were 245 people consisting of students in classes X and XI of SMA Mujahidin Pontianak. The instrument used in this research was the DKQ-24 questionnaire given to respondents. The research results were analyzed univariately.
Result: The research results showed that 76.7% (188 respondents) had knowledge about type 2 diabetes mellitus in the moderate category, 17.6% (46 respondents) had knowledge about type 2 diabetes mellitus in the low category, and 15.7% (14 respondents) have knowledge about type 2 diabetes mellitus in the high category.
Conclusion: Almost all students attending SMA Mujahidin Pontianak know type 2 diabetes mellitus in the moderate category. This research suggests schools collaborate with medical personnel or health organizations to create informative posters about type 2 diabetes mellitus and strengthen the UKS Program to increase student knowledge and awareness.
