This article aims to explore the historical role of BRI for the community as a bank born from Bumiputera during the transition from the Old Order to the New Order. Bank Rakyat Indonesia was originally a bank owned by the people of Purwokerto aiming for the credit system of the people of Purwokerto. The employment policy that caused the government to establish the BPP Bank Rakyat Indonesia to oversee the policies of Bank Rakyat Indonesia. The method used is a historical research method consisting of heuristic, verification, interpretation, and historiography. Accompanied by the collection of data that is a supporting source in the form of an annual report archive. Bank Rakyat Indonesia's policies from 1950 to 1970 resulted in Bank Rakyat Indonesia improving the credit system for rural communities, especially farmers and fishermen. Bank Rakyat Indonesia provides policies that aim to build economic dynamics by making efforts such as participation in a government program called BIMAS. This credit system has a positive impact on people who want to improve the village economy.
