Author Guidelines

Journal Orthopaedi and Traumatology Surabaya (JOINTS) publishes all aspects of science related to Orthopedics and Traumatology. Articles include original article, case report, and review article describing innovative cases, recent topics, and reviews in Orthopedics and Traumatology. JOINTS is dedicated to promoting education, scientific advancement, and orthopedic practice improvement. The journal accepts manuscripts in English; hence the authors are considered responsible for ensuring that the language uses are clear. Guidelines for Authors must be followed by all authors.

Submission

All papers must be submitted using our online submission system by a registered author. Register your account first on our website before proceeding with your manuscript, but if you already have an account, please use an existing account to process your manuscript. General Principles

1. The submitted article in JOINTS must be authentic and have never been published before.

2. The manuscript should correlate to the discipline of Orthopedic and Traumatology.

3. Manuscript is written in English.

4. This journal accepts three types of articles: (1) Original Article; (2) Case Report; and (3) Review Article.

5. JOINTS' Editorial Board has the prerogative to conduct the correction in style, format, and clarity (grammatical errors) of the article.

6. The author can make a revised script due to various aspects. Numerous errors in any aspect can be returned to the author for revision or can be rejected.

7. All texts will be subjected to Peer Review and Editorial Review.

8. Authors must complete the title page, copyright transfer agreement form, and ethical clearance/ informed consent when submitting the manuscript. These must be uploaded to the Open Journal System (OJS) as supplementary files.

9. The submission file is in Microsoft Word format.

10. The abstract should be no more than 250 words.

11. The recommended resolution for photographs (raster images) is 300 dpi (dots per inch). The recommended resolution for line art (charts or images that contain typographic elements) is 600 dpi. Please use JPEG/ JPG format for the figure.

12. References should contain a minimum of 80% of original research article in less than 10 years.

13. Permission from an independent ethics committee should be acquired for all submitted manuscripts which consist of animal experiments and/or involving human subjects. Please also state the ethical information in the body text. The licensed copy should be provided as supplementary files in the submission process and sent to joints@fk.unair.ac.id. In the Case Report article, the author should enclose the informed consent forms of the patient in the supplementary files.

Writing Layout

1. Layout size: A4 (21.0 x 29.7 cm).

2. Margins Setting: Top, Left, Bottom, and Right with a distance of 2.5 cm.

3. Font: Author(s) Name, Affiliation, Correspondence, Abstract, and Body Text Times New Roman, Font size: 11 pt. Table Caption, Table, Figure Caption, Font size: 10 pt.

4. Title, Abstract, Table Title, Table, Figure Title, and References typed with a single (1.0) line spacing.

5. Body Text is typed with a spacing of 1.5, in one column layout.

Title Page Information

In regards to the policy of double-blind peer review, the author's information must be separated from the main manuscript. Therefore, the author's identity should be stated only on the title page. The title page must be uploaded as a supplementary file in the Open Journal System (OJS).

Types of Manuscript

The types of articles that are published in the JOINTS are listed and described below. Please select the category that best represents your manuscript. If your manuscript does not fall into any of these categories, please contact JOINTS Editorial Office.

• Original Article

Original Article represents original and significant research contributions to musculoskeletal and traumatology fields. The entire manuscript should not exceed 4000 words and consist of a minimum of 10 references.

• Case Report

Case Report describes a detailed report of identifications of patients, including symptoms, signs, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up in musculoskeletal and traumatology. The text should be no longer than 3500 words in length with a minimum of 10 references.

• Review Article

The review article interprets a comprehensive review and various studies related to topics of musculoskeletal and traumatology. JOINTS accepts literature review and systematic review articles. The entire manuscript should not exceed 5000 words and should have a minimum of 10 references. 

Layout Format

1. Layout for Original Article

- Title: concise, specific, descriptive, and must be written in English. It must enclose a maximum of 20 words with all capital letters and bold.

- Structured abstract: The abstract should be in English and must not exceed 250 words. The Abstract in Research Article must include the following sections: Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.

- Keywords: should consist of at least 3 and at most 5 keywords, and please use a semicolon (;) as a separator. In principle, words in the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), the subject headings of Index Medicus, are used for Keywords. Please add one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) keywords as uploaded in the document template menu. For example, human & medicine (the words "human & medicine” are included in the SDG3: Good Health and Well-Being).

- Introduction: Background of the issue, formulation of the problem, aims for the research, and an overview of the prospects of future research goals. The research hypothesis is declared together with the main topics coherently under investigation along with references discussed from previous finding results.

- Methods: Comprehensible explanation of variables discussed, experiments and measurements conducted, and methods applied. Please outline the research ethics relating to the use of animal and/or human subjects under an academic convention.

- Results: should be presented briefly and precisely with relevant arguments in a logical order with the minimum number of tables and illustrations to encapsulate the most important information. Tables, illustrations, and photos must be followed by a clear and detailed explanation. Calculation results must be reported in SI units.

- Discussion: clarify the investigation results' significance, not repeat them. It demonstrates the comparison of results from the investigation with the literature.

- Conclusion: a brief statement about the results of the study and the objectives also includes the suggestion, problem-solving recommendations, improvement, and development of science and technology that refers to conclusions for future studies

- References: should consist of a minimum of 10 references. References should contain a minimum of 80% of scientific journals in less than 10 years. 2. Layout for Case Report

- Introduction: Background of the problem, the prior solution, suggested solution to regulate the case, and the aims of the suggested solution.

- Case Report: detailed identification of the patient, including age, sex, complaints, the previous clinical examination, and progress after the past clinical examination.

- Discussion: defines the case prevalence, proposed solution in solving cases, and outcomes with the minimum number of tables and illustrations to encapsulate the most important information.  The discussion part should explore the significance of the results of the work without repeating them.

- Conclusion: a brief statement about the outcomes of the case report.

- Reference: should consist of a minimum of 10 references. References should contain a minimum of 80% of scientific journals in less than 10 years. 3. Layout for Review Article

- Title: concise, specific, descriptive, and must be written in English. It must enclose a maximum of 20 words with all capital letters and bold.

- Structured abstract: The abstract should be in English and must not exceed 250 words. The Abstract in Review Article must include the following sections: (1) For Systematic Review : Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions and (2) For Literature Review: Background, Literature Review, and Summary.

- Keywords: should consist of at least 3 and at most 5 keywords, and please use a semicolon (;) as a separator. In principle, words in the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), the subject headings of Index Medicus, are used for Keywords. Please add one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) keywords as uploaded in the document template menu. For example, human & medicine (the words "human & medicine” are included in the SDG3: Good Health and Well-Being).

- Introduction: Background of the problem, supporting literature data, and objectives.

- Review: various studies related to the title and aims of writing a review article (such as clinical diagnosis, investigation, clarification of pathology, therapy, surgical techniques, rehabilitation, complications, and prognosis) with the minimum number of tables and illustrations to encapsulate the most important information.

- Summary: a brief statement of review.

- Reference: should consist of a minimum of 10 references and a maximum number of 40 references. References should contain a minimum of 80% of scientific journals in less than 10 years. References

References should consist of a minimum of 10 references. Written in Vancouver style format with single (1.0) line spacing sequentially. References more than a decade are limited to 20% of the total references, whilst the remains are limited to the last decade. List the first six authors followed by et al if the authors are more than six (see the template file).

Citation in the text

- In the Vancouver style, references should appear at the end of the text of your essay/paper, listed numerically in the order that they were cited in the text.

- Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa). Do not mention the year of publication in the text.
