Journal History
History of the Journal of Islamic Economics and Business (JEBIS) – Universitas Airlangga
The Journal of Islamic Economics and Business (JEBIS) is a scholarly journal managed by the Islamic Economics Department, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia. It was first published in 2015 in response to the growing need for an academic platform to disseminate research in the fields of Islamic economics and business.
Since its inception, JEBIS has aimed to serve as a medium for academics, researchers, practitioners, and students to publish high-quality scholarly work—both theoretical and practical—related to the advancement of Islamic economic thought and business practices.
To align with international standards and enhance its global visibility, JEBIS has consistently used English as its primary language of publication since 2020. This strategic move aims to increase the journal’s impact, accessibility, and contribution at the international level, fostering broader collaboration among scholars worldwide. Publishing in English allows JEBIS to reach a wider academic audience and play a more influential role in the global discourse on Islamic economics and business.
Over the years, JEBIS has demonstrated significant progress, as reflected in its rising national accreditation status—from SINTA 3 to SINTA 1, the highest level granted by Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. This achievement is supported by the journal’s commitment to quality, including the engagement of an editorial board and reviewers from various international institutions.
JEBIS is published periodically \[e.g., biannually], covering a broad range of topics such as:
* Islamic Economics
* Islamic Banking and Finance
* Islamic Business Management
* Zakat, Waqf, and Islamic Philanthropy
* Business Ethics and Governance in Islam
* Fintech and Innovation in Islamic Finance
To ensure the quality and integrity of its publications, JEBIS applies a rigorous double-blind peer-review system, uses the Open Journal System (OJS) for transparent manuscript management, and continues to expand its presence in reputable academic indexes.
Looking ahead, JEBIS is fully committed to improving its academic quality to provide greater scholarly benefits to readers and to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of knowledge in Islamic economics and business.
