Author Guidelines


Manuscripts can be prepared in Indonesian but preferred in English, should be written according to sound grammar and proper terminology. Manuscripts should be in MS-Word format in document format (doc, Docx or RTF) use A4 paper for typing. The page settings of the word processor to A4 format, 210 mm (8,27") on width dan 297mm (11,69") on height. The manuscript should be in one column, using Times New Roman font with font size 12, and one-and-a-half-space. The section headings are on boldface capital letters. Second-level headings are typed in boldface capital and lowercase letters. Third level headings are typed in boldface italic capital and lowercase letters. Tables, figures, and illustrations are placed within the text of the manuscript.

Journal of Community Medicine and Public Health Research (JCMPHR) publishes articles on public health and preventive medicine. Articles are classified as research reports, case reports, and article reviews to keep readers informed of current problems and think innovatively. Articles accepted for publication are articles that have never been published and submitted for other publications.

General Principles

As a basic requirement, all articles submitted to Journal of Community Medicine and Public Health Research (JCMPHR) must be original work, which has never been published previously and is submitted exclusively to Journal of Community Medicine and Public Health Research (JCMPHR). The Editorial Board reserves the right to edit all articles in aspects of style, format, and clarity. Authors may be required to revise their manuscripts for reasons of any aspect. Manuscripts with excessive errors in any aspect may be returned to authors for retyping or may be rejected. All manuscripts will be subjected to peer and editorial review

We accept three types of articles: original article, case report and review article.

Study Ethics

All submitted papers containing animal experiments and/or involving human subjects should have obtained approval from an independent ethics committee. The copy of approval should be provided to editorial office as mentioned above.

Publication Ethics

This journal follows guidelines from Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in facing all aspects of publication ethics and, in particular, how to handle cases of research and publication misconduct.


Structure and Language

Articles will be published in Indonesia and US English (preferred), english following American spelling. Articles in English that are linguistically inadequate may be rejected. Articles must be submitted in the following structural order: title page and  authorship, abstract, keywords, text, acknowledgments (if any), and references. Tables, figures, and legends are included in the text where they should be placed.


Title Page and Authorship

The title page should contain: title of the article (concise, no abbreviations, maximum 16 words); full names of authors (without academic title); author’s affiliation [name(s) of department(s) and institution(s)]; corresponding author’s name, mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the author responsible for correspondence about the manuscript (E-mail address of the coressponding author will be published along with the article); short running title [maximum 40 characters (letter and spaces)]; word counts [A word count for the text only (excluding abstract, acknowledgments, tables, figure legends, and references)]; number of figures and tables.


Authorship of articles should be limited to those who have contributed sufficiently to take public responsibility for the contents. This includes (a) conception and design, or analysis and interpretation of data, or both; (b) drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content; (c) final approval of the version to be published; (d) and agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.


Abstract and Keywords

The Abstract  should be prepared in English. Abstract in maximally 200 words, started with short explanation on the objectives of the study. Describe materials & methods in detail and clearly the research process undertaken, including experimental design, equipment used, methods in data collection, location description, and type of treatment. The result data are presented briefly with reviews in the form of narrative text, tables, and images. Information provided only results presented, no interpretation of data or conclusions from the existing data. An informed data should be presented in a table/image format using narrative text and written in an easy-to-understand language. The main conclusions/summary of the study should be presented in a short conclusions section, answering the question of the research.

For non-Indonesian authors, abstract in Indonesian will be translated by the editor. Keywords in English and Indonesian are limited to 3 - 6 words or short phrases that will allow proper and convenient indexing. The author(s) must add at least 1 keyword of SDGs in the manuscript submitted to the Journal of Community Medicine and Public Health Research.

Describes briefly the background of the investigation with updated information and states the aim of the study.


Material and Methods

Provide sufficient details to enable the experiments to be reproduced. Support the techniques and methods used with references. All statistical methods used should be describe in detail in the methods section of the manuscript. Avoid relying solely on statistical hypothesis testing, such as P values, which fail to convey important information about effect size. Define statistical terms, abbreviations, and most symbols.

Present the results and their significance clearly and concise. Graphs and tables should be self explanatory. Tables and figures should be numbered in the order of their mention in the text. Tables should be embedded in page. Provide footnotes and other information (e.g., source/copyright data, explanation of boldface). Condence or divide larger tables. Provide figures embedded in page. Figures should be drawn professionally. Photographs should be sharp (contrast). Provide footnotes and other information (e.g., source/copyright data, explanation of boldface) in figure legend. Submit image files (e.g., electromicrograph) without text content as high-resolution (300 dpi/ppi minimum) TIFF or JPG files. Figures and tables should be centered. There is no vertical border. Size of figures and tables may span into two columns. Colored charts images are possible. Do not use dot pattern on charts since there is possibility it can not be printed in its original. Use solid fill and contrast color in charts images.



Discussion should explore the significance of the results of the work, not repeat them. Deals with critical review and interpretations of the results, and supported by relevant updated references. Repetition of data should be avoided. It should end with brief conclusions. In Short Communications, Results and Discussion may be combined.



The main conclusions/summary of the study should be presented in a short Conclusions section. This section should highlight the major, firm discoveries, and state what the added value of the main finding is, without literature references.



The acknowledgment is a formal printed statement that recognizes individuals  and institutions that contributed to the work being reported. Contributions to the research should be acknowledged. Acknowledge research contributions by people other than the authors. Persons who gave scientific guidance, participated in discussions, or shared unpublished results. Institutions who help in funding. The acknowledgment should be a simple statement of thanks, not a testimonial or dedication.



Cite tables in ascending Arabic numerals according to the first appearance in the manuscript file. Each table is placed after the references in order. Tables require a label with Arabic numerals in order (e.g., “Table 1”, “Table 2”, and so on) and brief descriptive title to be placed above the table. Vertical rules should not be used. Do not submit your tables in separate files. Tables, illustrations, and photographs should be quoted in the text in sequence and separated from the text. The table is displayed with horizontal lines in the header (first row) and only in the end, without vertical lines. The table title is typed in the middle and placed on the table.



Figures should be either professionally drawn or photographed, and in a format (JPEG or TIFF) in the following resolutions [gray-scale or color in RGB (red, green, blue mode) at least 300 dpi (dots per inch)]. Ensure that figures are clear, labeled, and of a size that can be reproduced legibly in the journal. The image title is centered and placed at the bottom of the image. Following remarks should be applied to the figures:

Each figure should have a concise caption describing accurately what the figure depicts. Include the captions in the text of the manuscript.

Figure captions begin with the term Figures. Figures should be with the captions placed below in limited numbers.

No punctuation is to be placed at the end of the caption.

Identify all elements found in the figure in the figure caption; and use boxes, circles, etc., as coordinate points in graphs.

identify previously published material by giving the original source in the form of a

reference citation at the end of the figure caption.

Figures should be quoted in the text in sequence and separated from the text.


Units of Measurement

For measurements use S.I. (System International) units. Measurements should be abbreviated (e.g. mm, kcal, etc.) in accordance to the Style Manual for Biological Sciences and using the metric system. Measurements of length, height, weight, and volume should be reported in appropriate scientific units. Temperatures should be in degrees Celsius. Blood pressures should be in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). Drug concentrations may be reported in either SI or mass units, but the alternative should be provided in parentheses where appropriate.



References is advisibly not to exceed 25 in number but not less than 10, and should in general be limited to the last decade. Authors is recommended to use reference management software, in writing the citations and references such as: Mendeley®, Zotero®, EndNote®, and Reference Manager®. References are written on Sage Vancouver style and numbered consecutively in order in which they cited in the text. This applies to references in text, tables and figures.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. The submission constitutes original work (screening for plagiarism will be undertaken). Submissions not adhering to these guidelines may be returned to authors.
  4. Complete the cover letter and follow the template according to the author's guidelines, and attach the cover letter to the supplementary section.
