Author Guidelines

 

Journal of Parasite Science (JOPS) with registered number P-ISSN (2599-0993) ; E-ISSN (2656-5331) published by the Division of Veterinary Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga.

Journal of Parasite Science (JOPS) presenting research articles, case reports, community development activities and literature studies of veterinary medicine. Published twice a year on March and September. Since 2002 the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has had Veterinary Medicine Media, because considering that there is only one journal that must accommodate many articles written by lecturers and students, various journals have been developed according to the disciplines in each department, one of which is the JOPS. JOPS can publish articles from various faculties and institutions related to the parasitology. JOPS which has been published since 2017 is here for accommodate publication obligations for undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as other parties conducting research in the field of parasitology. Loading of articles in the JOPS through the Open Journal System (OJS). Complete information for article loading and article writing instructions are available on the website and every issue. Incoming articles will go through a selection process by editors and reviewers.

Manuscripts should be typed in double spaced, except for titles, abstracts, titles of tables and tables, headings of figures, reference, and attachments, typed according to separate provisions. Paragraph formatting: new paragraph begins (first line) 0.3 inches. The standard font for writing is Times New Roman 12. Using A4 paper size (8.27 x 11.69)". Using English. Tables / Illustrations / Images must be of high contrast, also include separate scanning files (photos) with papers in JPG file format. Table captions, pictures or other explanations in the attachment should be typed 1 (one) space.

 

The first page contains titles in Indonesian and English, followed by full names of all authors without titles and initials (bold, centered), followed by the name and complete address of the respective institution (marked with numeric superscripts) and e-mail of corresponding authors (marked with *superscript). 

The second page forward contain ABSTRACT in English, followed by INTRODUCTION, MATERIALS AND METHODS, RESULTS AND DISCUSSION, CONCLUSIONS, APPROVAL OF ETHICAL COMMISSION, ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS and REFERENCES.

Original Research

Title should be concise but informative, as far as possible in no more than 12 words.

Abstract written in English, do not exceed 250 words, containing elements of background, material and methods, results and conclusions.

Keywords maximum of 6 (six) words or phrases, written after the abstract in each languages, alphabetically ordered. As far as possible avoid using keywords from the title.

Introduction consists of the background, research objectives, problem formulation and benefits. The background includes four main ideas, namely: problem statement, problem scale, problem chronology and research approach. Contains a description of the facts and expectations for the completion of the research. Described based on concepts built from references in the literature. The research question and/or hypothesis (if any) in the introduction should not write in the form of points or should not be numbered.

Method in details so that other author could do the similar research with the written method in the article. Materials and methods are brief descriptions of the research design, how to conduct research and mention the materials/objects and tools used.

Results and Discussion compared with other research that ever conducted or discuss based on the theoretical framework that is used in the research. Use up-to-date references such as books that published in the last ten years and journal articles that published in the last five years (except the reference that being recommended by the reviewer in this field).

Tables are made without vertical lines (use only lines at the top and bottom of the table as well as for separating heading from the main table), with table title placed before the table, numbered in Arabic numerals (Table X), and have to be referred in the text. The description of the table is placed after the table; it must be concise but clear enough so that the table separately can be understood without referring to the text. The table along with the title and description are placed after the References.

Figures presented are only those that support the findings of the study, and not restatement of data from tables in the form of figures. When resulted data in the form of figure is more informative, interesting or significant, presentation of data in table form is not required. Figure title is placed after the figure, numbered in Arabic numerals (Figure Y), and have to be referred in the text. The description of the figure is placed under the title of the figure; it must be concise but clear enough so that the figure separately can be understood without referring to the text. Image (in JPEG format) is sent in separate file. The title and description of the figure are placed after the References.

Conclusion in one until two paragraphs without using the bullet points or number.

Approval of Ethical Commission have to be stated (number and institution) if the manuscript is constructed based on a research using live animals.

Acknowledgements are delivered to the research funders (state the name, number and recipient name of the grant, if applicable), and to those who have helped carry out the research.

References should be written according to the APA guidelines, that uses the family name of the author at the beginning of the sequence. Example: Family Name, Abbreviated the First Name and the Middle Name. Do not use commas or point for the abbreviated name. For the year of the references give bracket without points. The reference from a journal article, anthology books or book chapter must include the page. References from the internet not journals are not recommended.

* The chapters in an authored book are all written by the book author(s) whereas the chapters in an edited book have different authors. It is important to determine this, as it does make a difference in correct citation and referencing. See examples in above sections *

Review Article

Journal of Parasite Science received review articles on topics included in the scope of the journal which are of current interest. Reviews are invited by the editor. The review must be a comprehensive analysis and perspective on the state of the field and where it is heading. Reviews will be subject to the same peer review process as is applied for original papers. The manuscript is arranged in the same way as the original article with an unstructured abstract (maximum of 250 words). Manuscripts should be typed in double spaced, except for titles, abstracts, titles of tables and tables, headings of figures, reference, and attachments, typed according to separate provisions. Case reports:

Journal of Parasite Science receives quality and interesting case reports with topics included in the scope of this journal. All reports are peer reviewed as is applied for original articles. All instructions are the same as for the original articles.

 

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
